As I was driving into work tonight, all of the sudden the accelerator stops doing it basic functi0n of moving my car forward. I quickly realized something was wrong (duh) and pulled into someone's driveway. I was on a time-crunch but I knew what to do. Pop opened the trunk on the bug, grabbed a couple zip ties and within two minutes was back on the road. Along with the duct tape, 10 and 13 mm wrenches, and fuses, zip ties are a complete necessity if you own an old car (especially a VW).

I have zip ties pulling my brake lines away from rubbing on my sway bar end links. #JustChryslerThings

I’m pretty sure our Wrangler is held together with zip ties.

Zip ties have to be some of the best things ever made.

I always keep a thing of different-sized zip ties in my trunk. Never know when you’re gonna need them.

I have used them to plastic weld my radiator. I went off road and cracked the bottom tank, got towed home and had to have the car running for the next day. Of course it was after hours and not a hope of getting a replacement so I broke out the heat gun and zip ties. Luckily they are pretty much the same plastic as it worked. Actually still running with the ‘temparary’ repair almost a year later.

Better substitute 1/2” and either 7/16” or 9/16” for old American cars.

I recently used some zip ties to hold together the door pull mechanism in the Civic. I broke the small plastic clips that snap around the rods, so they could pop out without warning.

That reminds me, I really should buy a big variety pack of them...

My thoughts too. I realized I only have the short ones in the car and while they worked just fine, you need to have some choices.
